Family History Courses

Would you like to researching your family history and join one of the largest worldwide hobbies: Be warned that this can become quite an addictive passion! But you can spend as much or as little time on it as your lifestyle permits.

Some individuals see researching their past as producing a simple tree: following the male line - the production of a pedigree. As family historians we believe that a simple tree or pedigree does not tell you the history of the family…the stories of lives in the past.

Family history means putting the meat on the bones and getting to know your ancestors,  where they lived, how they lived, what they did, when – and why.

It is detective work to discover who were their neighbours, what their lives were like, where they worshipped and how most of the locals lived. It is the discovering of your roots: roots of a tree that will take you in many directions, using many different types of resources and each producing another piece in your puzzle.

Do you want to find out how to do your own research? Then come on one of our courses,

First Steps in Family History - our course for beginners

or

Next Steps in Family History - our first course for intermediates

or

Further Steps in Family History

Our courses will give you a sound basis on which to undertake your own research.

Your tutors are experienced researchers, who are enthusiastic in their hobby and want to help others be able to discover their own roots—and to be able to come to know the pleasure of such a worthwhile hobby
